Ageing is divided into three phases in Ayurveda:

  1. Balavastha (childhood),
  2. Madhyavastha (young and middle age),
  3. Vriddhavastha (old age).

Two people of the same age can have vastly different levels of vitality and energy if they have not taken care of their bodies properly, or have pushed and exhausted them to their limits—actions that can cause premature ageing.

The aging process is influenced by four things: time, nature, diet, and the absence of disease. After all , vata dosha (air and space element) becomes dominant in Vriddhavastha.

As vata is related to the nervous system and the bones, if proper care is not taken, degeneration can be seen in joints and the brain with regards to memory, the first signs of age-related decline.

Daily Routine

Creating a routine is the foundation of Healthy Ayurvedic Lifestyle and Food, and it must be tailored to our character type at each stage of life.

Starting your day with water and washing as soon as you wake up, establishing a routine, and engaging in mindful activities like yoga and meditation will help you avoid feelings of loneliness and boredom. Design your agenda and do what you love, as it will help you avoid feelings of boredom and loneliness.

As we age, our diet starts to correspond with our bodily systems. Our nutritional demands change as we age, especially after the age of 60. This leads to an uptick in health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, electrolyte imbalances, sleep issues, and more.

It is thus crucial to consume nutrient-dense foods in order to obtain a variety of local produce, whole grains, lean protein, Omega 3s, and healthy fats.
