The unused ensign will evacuate the St George’s Cross which the Britishers set during the colonial time. The new ensign for the Indian Navy will be unveiled on September 2, according to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the reveal will occur when the nation’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, is commissioned at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi.

Since January 26, 1950, the ensign has been modified a total of four times.

In 1950, the Ashokan Lion took the place of the naval crest’s crown, which was represented by an anchor.

Up until 2001, the Red St. George’s Cross was kept, but it was afterward changed to the Indian Navy’s navy blue crest.

In 2004, an Ashoka emblem was added to the St. George’s Cross intersection. The 2001-added naval crest was eliminated.

 

In 2014, The national anthem “Satyameva Jayate” was added to the Ashok Emblem, and it is now used as the ensign. A tricolor in the right-top corner and the words “Satyameva Jayate” beneath the Ashoka emblem are displayed on a white flag with horizontal and vertical stripes.
